Stone Arch Scramble
Kanakapura
Overview
A short but technical scramble up to the top of a huge natural stone arch - for experienced hikers only. Some sections are exposed and require basic rock skills.
⚠️ I hate safety disclaimers and liability waivers, but in light of recent incidents resulting in serious injury, I am forced to put this here. So attempt the scramble only if you know what you're doing. I can't take responsibility for any mishap while attempting this.

Trail Description
This is a short but intense hike. Since this is a well-trodden trail to the temple, it's also suitable as a trail run especially when coming down.
Temple under the stone arch
The most striking highlight of this trail is its huge natural stone arch with a Basaveshwara temple underneath. The locals offer prayers at the temple on Mondays and Fridays. They walk the trail barefoot and would frown upon hikers with shoes on. So respect the local tradition. Hiking barefoot might also be a good challenge on this short but intense hike. This trail is easy to follow because the locals walk it very regularly. If you want to hike with your shoes on, hike on days other than Monday or Friday.
There is a lot of space in the shade under the stone arch, so you could take a break here to rehydrate and have a quick snack.
Scramble to top of the stone arch
⚠️ Safety disclaimer.
So there is an easy, short but exposed scramble that will take you to the top of the natural stone arch. I have marked a waypoint (⚠️) on the trail going up from the temple towards the clifftop. Some sections might be slightly technical and exposed. If you're a seasoned hiker with some rock and rope skills this is for you. I have seen photos of people rappeling down too. So carry your gear if you wish to rappel from up here. I didn't see any bolts here though.
